During their stay at Alpha House, the Children’s Services Specialist helps children and families adjust to life in the shelter and to begin to resolve the trauma of homelessness. Families address topics individually and in a group setting including parenting skills, communication, discipline, and anger management. Separate groups are held for children and parents each week.
While at Alpha House, children attend school or day care regularly and the Children’s Services Specialist supports their academic, social, and emotional success.
In 2014, 97% of families were connected to parenting resources in the community.
All school-aged children attend school while at Alpha House.
